BAND DIVISION Deb Shofner, Vice President

21st Century Skills and Band Division All-State Highights

Students in the 21st Century should be encouraged to develop their creative skills. Te following quote is taken from the 21st Century Skills guide– “Communications in today’s intercon- nected world increasingly emphasize multimedia, and the arts are the media. For personal as well as professional success, students must therefore learn to critically interpret media messages, and to convey their own ideas through the me- dium of artistic form. Students’ capacity to create and express themselves through the arts is one of the central qualities that make them human, as well as a basis for success in the 21st Century.”

Te 21st Century Skills is a concept that will ensure our students are well-rounded adults. Is, or has, your school district/ administration looked into getting “on- board?” We need to communicate to our parents, administrations, and school boards that the State of Illinois has com- mitted to the 21st Century Skills and now we must encourage all of our school districts to follow suit.
