MESSAGE FROM OUR PUBLISHER G’day Guys

.Design criteria of the BULL A I

nother publication another season – Yes Summer is here but nearly gone! We will try to make this edition full of our glorious

summer season activities, not forsaking our change of leadership and all the pomp and tradition that goes with it. What a splendid night we had when West meets East, truly an indicative significant illustration of the part that Rotary plays in our personal relationships.

think it appropriate to comment on the content

of our BULL on this occasion, as it is important that we continue to provide our members with

what they want! Especially, considering the talk & discussions about our lack of success in the recent Rotary Journal awards! I think I can comment with experience and authority on awards considering the many awards that I and my business have achieved over recent years, Please note! the awards that our company Utilize Plc achieved were designed as a means to promote our business into a particular market place, being to advertising for new prospective customers, they were not achieved nor designed for its members, the awards applications were full of Customer glamour and mind blowing technical expertise provided by a specialist in such design, we sold the sizzle and not the sausage, bearing this in mind if you want our BULL to win a journalistic award then we will have to make many changes to our BULL, which will include changing its name, becoming much more formal and of course will need to engage a design specialist as neither George or I have had any prior editorial or publishing experience. Some thing for you to consider.

My Vote is Forget the Sizzle and Enjoy the Sausage!

Keep our BULL for its own members and not other clubs judges.

Bearing in mind this current design of the BULL was never designed to win awards, I would like to confirm what both George & I have set out to achieve, by highlighting the criteria that we work to in editing and publishing.

Current events of our Club to be illustrated by stories, photos, jokes, tables of dates etc

When necessary to be formally serious and informative, however, the main emphasis to be mostly amusing and entertaining information about members activities

Colorful in design, easy reading and large print Overhaul design content to be for our own club members, although, suitable for non members to read and understand. We welcome your comments on this criteria

hilst writing I would like to ask a member to step forward and apply for a role as a roving reporter to help with

stories, etc as I can see George‟s time gradually being taken up with all his new duties, and I honestly believe that we are currently missing a lot of good stories of events in our club, such as when a speaker who usually puts much preparation and research into their speech, entertains us and in some cases educates us only to have most of it

forgotten, perhaps, if we set a principle that the person who thanks the speaker also writes a few notes and passes it on to our roving reporter or Editor. I do hope that you will help in this matter.

his year my sailing and cruising adventures have taken me away a lot and I have missed some of our meetings and speakers, sadly I

have not got a Video of those speakers, of which I have been told some were exceptionally good, thereby, I would appreciate it if in future one of our video camera members offers to be my stand in and video in my future absence. Once taken with your camera I will copy the video film to a DVD and forward a copy to the speaker. On many occasions previous speakers have thanked us. It has also been an opportunity to promote our Club as our Club name & logo are edged on the DVD cover and on the video screen. I am also pleased to say that we have now built up a reasonable size Video Library which in the near future is hoped to be available on our password controlled Rotary web-site, in the meantime if you would like to see a specific DVD then please do not hesitate to ask, Most of them are currently in circulation with our Club members, however, I have the originals and would be pleased to make a copy for you. Regards Colin Davies
