MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT T

I

t came as somewhat of a surprise when George approached me in June

and requested a piece for the next edition of The Bull from the “President”. Time passes quickly when you are enjoy- ing yourself and this is certainly true for me over the last Rotary year. Under President Raj the Club had a full year of activities and fellowship; I thank him for handing it over to me in such good health.

J

udging from the reports given to Club at Assembly in June by the Chairs and

Officers we should have a full and active year in2009/10. I was sorry to learn that George had been forced to cancel this year‟s Playathon in July. The problem appears to be the reluctance of the Queens Theatre to allow us the use of their premises. George‟s attempt to move to Hall Mead School was frustrated by poor support from the Schools and reluctantly we were forced to cancel the event. Let‟s hope we have better luck next year.

usual a great success, thanks to Geoff for making the arrangements and the Chef for a great meal; I was please that the District Governor John Banks and his wife Maureen were able to join us. I am sure you all join me in congratulating David Goodhill voted Rotarian of the year, David is one of our most committed and active Members and this award recognises all his hard work supported by wife Sue. I was particularly pleased to recognise Ron Geggus on achieving 50 years in Rotary, 21 of which have been spent in our Club, he joined Ilford Club in 1959 (he tells me he was very young!), we look forward to the next 50.

T

his will be my second term as President the first occasion was

1994/95 now after 25 years in the Club I have been awarded the privilege of holding the position again. The Club is still one of the best in Rotary as it was when I first joined and as I said at Assembly I look forward to enjoying myself as I am sure you all will.
