Visit by DG John Banks 9th July 2009

O

n Thursday 9th. July DG John

Banks and his charm- ing wife Maureen visited our club. His speech to our mem- bers was one of the first of the many he will be delivering as he does the rounds of all the clubs in District 1240. John sure has a busy year ahead of him and The Rotary Club of Hornchurch and Upminster wish him well.

I

t is always inter- esting to listen to

the experiences of one of our own mem- bers and on Thursday 16 July Ray Needham did the honours.

H

e enter- tained us

with stories of his career as a Police officer in the Met

I

t is funny how things happen

in our early lives which impact on our later years. Look at the changes in our police force now! What if the Met had not decided to take

on policemen with spectacles, way back in the 60's I don't

suppose Ray would have come to live down south. He would

never have joined the Ro- tary club of Dagenham and therefore he would never have transferred to our club which would have left Ron Geggus in a difficult position as he ran around trying to fix up a speaker for the 16th. It's a funny old world!

Boy-O-Boy how The Met has changed today
