Letter from the Executive Director
As regional owners, architects, engineers, contractors and suppli- ers enter into yet another construc- tion season, the Builders Exchange is implementing new initiatives and strengthening existing membership programs, which are beneficial to construction industry-related em- ployers. The new Syrabex agreement with
AT&T has significantly enhanced an already uniquely competitive wire- less telephone and data program. With discounts on airtime and data usage approaching 41%, includ- ing such discounts on the iPhone, Syrabex is well positioned to deliver quality services at well below market cost, while at the same time provid- ing excellent in-house customer ser- vice via Elizabeth Conrad. A more complete description of this member benefit program is contained herein; however, companies are encouraged to call Elizabeth at Syrabex for fur- ther information. In the third quarter 2010, Syrabex
will launch a pre-bid service via the e-plan room. This service will pro- vide project information in the plan- ning stages on regional commercial construction projects from Buffalo to Albany and Binghamton to the Cana- dian border. The Builders Exchange continues
to focus on providing employers with a wide variety of often-free ed- ucation and safety training courses. Timely topics, quality instructors and affordable or no fees has resulted in high attendance rates for most class- es. Over the past several months, the Exchange has trained approximately 300 employees thanks to the New York State Department of Labor Hazard Abatement Board awarding the Builders Exchange a grant for such free training. A complete list of all available course offerings may be found at

2 | CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTOR 1ST QUARTER 2010
der Education/ Safety Train- ing.
The 2010
Cr a f t sma n - ship Awards will be June 25th, honor- ing exceptional craftsmen and women in the industry. In addition to the Crafts- manship Awards, the Builders Ex- change will also honor that evening our 2010 scholarship award winners. Since implementing the scholarship program in 1997, the Builders Ex- change has awarded over $65,000 in scholarships to dependents of em- ployees who work for member em- ployers, or to employees of member companies. Construction Contractor remains a popular publication to those employ- ers in the construction industry. Spe- cial “thanks” to the many wonderful advertisers who make the publica- tion of this industry service possible, especially during these difficult eco- nomic times. I’m pleased to report that cover and feature stories have been secured for 2010’s remaining three issues of this quarterly publi- cation. Thanks to our loyal member- ship base and supportive advertisers, Construction Contractor has evolved into an important service the Build- ers Exchange is proud to deliver to the regional construction commu- nity.
