ed and locked; access should be limited to authorized personnel only.
Prevent unauthorized wire transfers. Have written policies and procedures for wire transac- tions and conduct unannounced audits. Make sure the person authorizing the wire transfer isn’t the individual who orders or reconciles the wire transfer. Require on- line banking functions to have secure passwords and policies.
Control accounts receivable write-offs. Accounts receivable write-offs should not be performed by the individual performing the accounts receivable function.
Introduce a paperless system A paperless system allows for the extinction of the so- called “missing document” excuse. All internal docu- ments should be scanned into the accounting system. Conduct written staff evaluations. Timely evaluations and feedback will uncover unhappy employees, a red flag in any business.
Hire a Certified Fraud Examiner/Conduct a Risk As- sessment. Have an outside expert evaluate your organization’s controls against fraud.
Maintain adequate insurance coverage For theft loss, many organizations do not have enough employee dishonesty coverage should a loss occur. Re- view your policies and coverage annually. For more information, you may contact Kenneth C.
