Burnley Youth Theatre (BYT) was founded in 1973. Today the organisation is her- alded as one of the most advanced youth theatres in the country and is at the forefront of community cohesion activities with young people in Burnley. BYT works with an average of 450 young people a week age 5 - 25 years. The year round programme encompasses all art forms through a range of training workshops, projects and partnership schemes. BURNLEY AND PENDLE SPEAKERS CLUB Burnley and Pendle Speakers Club is a non-profit making, men’s self help group dedicated to helping members gain confidence and become less apprehensive about speaking in public – no matter whether it is a business presentation, a wedding speech or a lecture. This is done following a tried and tested process where members can learn how to speak in public and can practise their skills in a safe, positive-learning, friendly environment. Burnley and Pendle Speakers Club meets from September through to May on the first and third Thursdays of the month. Meetings are held at Nelson House, Nelson Square, Burnley, BB11 1LA, starting at 7:30 pm. Each evening’s programme takes 2 hours to complete and, traditionally, we then retire to the bar to socialise. Our President, James Dewhurst, would welcome new members who wish to improve their public speaking skills, however we are always seeking a larger audience and would, therefore, welcome visitors who wouldn’t perhaps want to join in straight away. A good start for the Clarets in their return season to the Championship, wi th a 1-0 home win against Nottingham Forest, followed by a 1-1 away draw with Roy Keane’s Ipswich Town. But Brian Laws has instilled a never say die attitude which might just be the Lancashire fighting spirit that get’s them back in to the Premiership, and believes that if they can pick up points like this when they know they can improve, the best is still to come. At the time of going to print Brian Law’s boys were anticipating a difficult away tie at against The Shrimps at Morecambe in the Carling Cup.
