pitchcare TRAINING & education
Thinking ahead
I know the summer has hardly begun, but it’s not too early to be thinking about the autumn and winter and your training requirements for yourself and your staff. It always pays to register your interest in training courses early, to avoid the new season’s rush in September/October.

Many of the land-based colleges are holding their open and informaon days around now and I would encourage you to go along. As well as a good day out for all the family, you can see what courses are on offer and find out which ones are going to suit your needs. If you are unable to visit, have a look at the college websites (details of all the major colleges are available through the Training Secon on the Pitchcare website).
Here at Pitchcare we are planning our own programme of courses for 2009/10, which will be published on our website later in the summer. As well as the Lantra Awards/NPTC assessed turf machinery and equipment courses which we can arrange for individuals or groups of 4 or more, the programme will include the popular Pitchcare General Sports Turf Maintenance courses covering the winter sports, summer sports and arficial pitches, held at various venues around the UK. These 1-day courses are designed predominantly for volunteers and part-me groundsmen, although they would also be useful for young people just
entering the profession, as they give an overview of all the equipment and machinery used in playing surface preparaon and renovaon.
During autumn/winter 2009/10 we shall also be offering our presgious 2-day Essenal Management Skills course for Head Groundsmen, Head Greenkeepers and their Depues. The two days are separated by three months, which gives delegates an opportunity to implement the learning from Day 1 back in the workplace, and bring case studies back to the table for discussion on Day 2. Topics covered include supervision of staff, health and safety, appraisals, me management, dealing with difficult people and so on.
So, some food for thought during the long, hot summer days!
We look forward to helping you with your training requirements, so don’t hesitate to get in touch.
