Minister supports the Amenity Forum

Clients will comply with all regulations and ensure the work is carried out safely to the operator, public and environment

At a recent follow-up meeting with Lord Rooker the Amenity Forum Chairman Jon Allbutt updated the Minister on their actions assigned to them in the Amenity Action Plan under the Government’s Policy Document ‘The Strategy for the Sustainable Use of Plant Protection Products’ Operator training with the necessary

NPTC certification and continuous professional development through the NRoSO Scheme was discussed in some detail. The Minister understands the importance of the qualification for all operators in the amenity sector if ‘Best Practice’ is to be the norm for all contractors and in-house teams. It was agreed that promotion by the Amenity Forum of the training, qualification and the NRoSO Scheme is to remain a high priority. Awareness of the need for planning contracts and operations was discussed.

Two critical linked steps have been developed by the Amenity Forum over the past months. Firstly, the Amenity Forum Guidelines drawn up to raise the standards of contract specification preparation are now readily available to managers and contractors on the web site www.amenity.org.uk in the Amenity Forum information section. The second important step is to get these ‘Best Practice’ Guidelines linked to the newly announced Amenity Assured scheme drawn up by BASIS, NAAC and NPTC. This comprehensive scheme sets the standard for contractors against which they will be audited, with the aim to assist clients and contractors to achieve the highest standards of stewardship for weed control.

Jon Allbutt, Chairman commented

“The Minister’s backing the Amenity Forum in the Amenity Action Plan is of great importance to our work. This will

Jon Allbutt

send an important message to all our amenity stakeholders to get behind the plan and make it work. By preparing a good specification and employing an Amenity Assured contractor, clients will comply with all regulations and ensure the work is carried out safely to the operator, public and environment.”
