Property Professional Show 2010 With

as media partner it had to be the event of the year! Sponsors GMG Property Services took

centre stage with a massive stand showcasing its three brands, CFP Software, Vebra and Core Systems, their offering clearly impressed visitors – as did the cupcake towers – as several major deals were done with new clients. Suzanne Deakins, Head of Group Marketing, said, “The launch of our new custom-built iPhone property app was very well received, as many agents look to embrace the latest technology to help move their business forward.” Another large space was assigned to

T

here was a great turnout for the first Property Professional Show in Birmingham on Monday 17 and Tuesday 18 May! Over 3500 visitors

enjoyed meeting key industry suppliers manning the 70 exhibition stands and many taking the opportunity to tie up key deals, face-to-face on a real handshake. The show, run by Taybroke Events, proved one thing – our industry is definitely ‘open for business’!

SEMINARS FOR SUCCESS A major attraction was the seminar programme. James Bacon from Google drew the crowds with his presentation about Google’s myriad ways to develop business, although those hoping for information about Google’s plans for UK property listings were disappointed as there was no announcement made on that subject. Peter Bolton King, CEO NFoPP, brought

his crystal ball to look at the impact of the Election on the housing market and Roger Bishop, CEO of training and accreditation company ABBE, discussed new legislation and opportunities. Well known agency expert Kevin

Hollinrake discussed the future of estate agency, focusing on the internet and remote working, while Richard Rawlings had some interesting advice on how to make your company more attractive. Miles Shipside, Commercial Director, Rightmove, gave

insight into home mover behaviour – understanding the buyer makes selling easier. Professionalism in estate agency is always

a hot potato and several sessions addressed issues such as Complaints (Lewis Shand CEO Ombudsman Services), Standards in the homebuying process (David Dalby of RICS), standards in lettings (James Toogood of CFP) and resolving disputes (Christopher Hamer, The Property Ombudsman). Technology was another key area with

delegates listening to Stephen Cox from Leica, Nik Maguire from Textboards, Ben Harris from housingdabble.co.uk and Charlie Wright from thebu2iness.com.

EXHIBITORS Opening at 8.45am on a Monday morning meant an early start but the easy access to the ICC and its helpful staff made the event welcoming and enjoyable for everyone.

Google but the latest volcanic ash cloud scuppered the expected sophisticated set which was being flown in – with their team – from Ireland. Fortunately, Head of Property James Bacon was coming from London finding himself the sole representative of the global organisation on a rather ‘minimal’ stand. The Google team spent the whole day travelling by trains, boats and taxis to arrive as we all finished dinner – but next morning they were fresh and lively on the still minimal stand, meeting a non-stop stream of visitors. The Stroma stand was a great attraction;

energy issues and training has never looked so good as when viewed from the Stroma Beach Bar, complete with a rustic cabin and deck, serving up drinks, snacks and music! There was something for everyone; new

services like Tax Doctor and products from The Mobile Agent were particularly well received, while new software stimulated great discussion between visitors and suppliers such as LetMC, Landmark Systems, Evolvin, Estates IT, VTUK and thebus2iness.com. Nick Hubbard, Estates IT said, “We felt

that the PPS show was a resounding success. The volume of visitors was slightly down on the expectations but this was more than compensated for by the quality of the leads that we generated.” Technology innovation moves ever faster

so visitors flocked to see Metropix, Leica, Rescomm Media, Textboards and e-newsletter specialist, Brief Your Market. Letting agents were well served with new

business opportunities from FastTrak, Lettingsearch.com, The Landlord Centre, Gaslelec and TenantDeposit.com. The PPS is now established as the leading

business and networking event of our industry, so put the date for next year’s show in your diary now – 10-11 May 2011.
