MEDICAL CENTRE & Support

Sharing

Buckfastleigh

SHARING Buckfastleigh is a support group for the Buckfastleigh Medical Centre, covering Buckfastleigh, Buckfast and the surrounding villages. The organisation depends upon the support of other charities, businesses and private individuals and was founded to provide transport for local people in need and to give them access to essential services. This is much appreciated especially by older people, many of whom live alone in the more isolated parts of our rural community. Sharing Buckfastleigh is run by non paid volunteers who receive only a small contribution to their fuel costs. The Lunchtime Club, run monthly to local hotels and restaurants, is very popular and with the aid of two specially adapted minibuses, which are hired for the occasion, 26 local people are able to have a treat that would otherwise be impossible. Twice a month on Sunday afternoons a T-Set for the lonely is held at Buckfastleigh Community Centre. A healthy tea is provided at a small charge, card games and a chance to chat as well as transport is free. John Hodgson, the honorary treasurer, is always willing to accept donations to a good cause and can direct helpers to the areas of greatest need. For information on the transport service, telephone 01364 643723.
