Mother purchase her first National Hunt horse Monaveen which she shared with her daughter, Princess Elizabeth. Sadly Lord Mildmay drowned aged 41 while swimming in the sea off the South Devon coast in 1950 and as he had no


children the title he held became extinct. The Buckfastleigh course


was on land owned by Lord Churston at Dean Court Farm. However, when the land was sold, the National Hunt races came to an end to be replaced by point to point


events. An interesting fact that has a football connection is that one of the grandstands was sold to Torquay United when they were elected to the football league in 1927. It was dismantled and re- erected at the Plainmoor ground..
