tem for men’s Ultimate in Toronto where well over 100 men tryout every year to make either GOAT, GT or ROY. John’s immense success as a player and as a leader make GOAT a very desirable team to play on — and this, by in large, keeps the farm system together in Toronto. To his credit, he has played an instrumental role in helping build a system where players have started on ROY and worked their way up to GOAT. As a result, the current men’s system is the most stable, collegial men’s touring system in the history of Toronto Ultimate. John has also played a role in developing Ultimate outside of Canada. Just recently he returned from Columbia where he played in a tournament and then gave seminars on “the state of Ultimate” as well as skill demonstrations.” - Kirk Nylen (GOAT)

“John has been invaluable to the success and development of Ultim-

ate in Toronto. John has always been willing to come out to Ultimate clinics run by the Toronto Ultimate Club, lending his experience and skills in trying to make the sport better in the Greater Toronto Area. As well as spearheading the men’s club system in Toronto, John has always helped out at practices with the B and C teams in Toronto. Whenever GOAT is not practicing, John will come out and help with GT or Roy practices, explaining new drills and Ultimate concepts, trying to build strength within the system. John is also always open to questions, and does not hesitate to give advice when asked. His continued dedica- tion towards the development of Ultimate in Toronto is very much ap- preciated and we here in Toronto are lucky to have such a skilled player available to help with development and coaching.” -Rahil Suleman

When John found out that he had won this award he wanted to thank

many people. In particular he wanted to thank Andy Ouchterlony, Mike Grant, Kirk Nylen, Andrew Lugsden and Inian Moorthy for bailing him out of many shady throws!
