decisions - confident in their ability, their knowledge, their strategies, their roles, and in their leaders on the field. I learned a lot about myself, gained a lot of confidence in myself as a player and leader through playing Ultimate at a high level while in university. In coaching I want to give kids an opportunity to go through similar experiences that will help them in their lives through increased confidence and learning about commitment to a team. Coaching is a way for me to keep connected to a sport that made a difference in my life.”

Female Athlete of the Year: Alyson Walker

Alyson Walker is one of the most accomplished female Ultimate players in Canada. With success both nationally and internationally, Alyson is a decorated and respected elite player.

HERE’S WHAT HER PEERS AND COACHES HAVE TO SAY ABOUT HER:

“Alyson has been the most influential leader and player (man or woman) in the 2008 and 2009 UPA championships. This year, Alyson stayed home to captain and lead the Capitals into the UPA championships. The Capitals made the semi-finals, losing in overtime on double- game point. This exceptional result is even more remarkable when you consider that the team did not even qualify for the tournament in 2008. Again, Alyson was the team’s most valuable player. She played hard, played spirited and led by example. The highest compliment I can pay Alyson is that if you were to create the mold for a successful Canadian player, you would start with Alyson Walker in all of the following areas: ability, leadership and spirit. I can think of no more worthy recipient of the inaugural Female Player of the Year Award.” -Jeff Cruickshank (2009 World Games

coach)

“Walker can inspire anyone to leave every

last drop of themselves on the field and to want to grow as a player, and I know that I personally have gained tremendously from playing with her. The day she retires will be a sad day for Ultimate in Canada and across the world.” - Kristen Laurin (Lotus & Capitals)

“Walker has everything you could ask for

in a teammate. Her skill and attitude on the field are unmatched. She was the heart of Team Canada and always helped pump up and motivate the team. I never saw her give less than 100% in any training camp or tournament. Walker is an inspirational player and leader and someone I continue to look up to on and off the field.” -Kira Frew (Team Canada)

“Alyson has undeniably been a true am-

bassador of Canadian Ultimate throughout the world. She has developed and bridged relationships with players everywhere and has been a representative of Canadian Ultim- ate. Closer to home, she has been sought by our local club (TUC) to represent Ultimate in our local media. She has dedicated count- less hours to coaching, leading in her com- munity of Toronto despite often playing for a
