FOOTWORK
LORD OF
THE DANCE
By Benny Davis
Stage Schools for kids form an
extremely important part of the
educational system – especially here on the Costa.
It’s not so much about, acting, dancing and singing,
but preparation for that eventual release into the cruel
outside world as an individual and not just another
jobless statistic.
For many, standing up in front of an audience can be very
daunting whether it is as an entertainer or later in life as a job
applicant - which is where schools like Footwork Dance bridges
that educational/arts gap. They reach the parts general schools
more than often miss, character and confidence building.
Based in Torrevieja, Footwork Dance accepts pupils from the
age of 4 to any upwardly mobile age. Ballet, tap, jazz and
acrobatics are all part of the overall curriculum, available to all
whether it be just for fun, fitness, or - for the more seriously
minded - professional futures as dancers or teachers.
Footwork Dance also stage their own shows and
demonstrations to raise funds for different local
charities. Past donations have involved SATS,
Tranquillity lodge for terminally ill children and HELP.
Their next show will be staged at the Virgen del Carmen
theatre on Sunday 22nd November at 19.30 hrs in aid of
the Torrevieja Alzheimer’s Society. Tickets at 5 euros are
available from the Municipal Theatre box office, Plaza
Miguel Hernández.
This exciting and colourful production will be a show
for all the family to enjoy with a programme that will
include the many aspects of dance from tap to ballet and
jazz to acrobatics, finishing on a high with a wonderful
grand finale choreographed from Lord of the Dance.
