On Friday 16 October the association of parents
who have children with learning difficulties
(APANEE) joined forces with the Torrevieja
Alzheimer’s’ Association to present a lovely cookery
book to raise funds for both charities.
The presentation of PONME MAS, POR FAVOR, was in the
Virgen del Carmen Centre; an event that was full of love,
exuberance and fun. In the PowerPoint display photos were
shown of President O’Bama, President Zapatero and faithful
Fidel Castro reading copies of the new book.
The book is well illustrated by funny drawings done by some
students while the cover still life painting was by Maurice
Balanguer the teacher of the municipal art school. Funding
came from Cajamurcia Foundation, the Club Naútico and the
Rotary Club.
The children proudly gave a copy to people who had
supported this project and once they found that their
shadows were on the projection screen started doing
somersaults to the delight of the other children. It was great
to see kids enjoy themselves uninhibited by scolding adults.
The book is in eight sections, each one dedicated not only to
a theme but also to a particular person. For some reason the
ultimate section about cocktails and drinks is dedicated to
Graham (Knight), which is an honour indeed since, he is
teetotal!
Some of the recipes are traditional Spanish or Vega Baja ones
such as tortilla or Gazpacho Andaluz; others are more modern
donated by some restaurant chefs. Jesucristo Riquelme who
is the driving force behind the cookbook was full of praise for
the recipe of his mother for Arroz y Costra.
This is a delightful book that will make a good Christmas
present for a Spanish friend or for yourself at only ten euros
if you have sufficient command of Castellano.
It is available in various outlets in Torrevieja and from both
associations.
