HIGH SUSPENSE IN GATA
This year, Jávea Players are recording a few
numbers to be proud of. Believe it or not, they are
rd
celebrating their 33 anniversary as an established
Costa Theatre Company; their next play Wait Until
th
Dark will clock-up their 70 full stage production,
th
giving current director Cherry Cabban her 60
production. Over this period the Players have
successfully covered the full spectrum of theatre from
Shakespeare to farce and musicals to light comedy.
Like the strolling players of old, they have also
performed in a variety of venues before purchasing
their own theatre workshop in Jávea, but because of
local lack of facilities, they are forced to stage their
major productions in the nearby town of Gata.
They have
chosen the
thriller; Wait
Until Dark
th
for their 70
production and are convinced the audience will be on the edge of their seats
throughout the entire performance. Directed by Cherry Cabban, the story
weaves its nail-biting way around a blind woman who is terrorized in her own
apartment by a man looking for a doll that unknown to her, contains a fortune
in heroin. Through a series of ruses, the mysterious stranger manages to get
rid of Susie’s husband and trap her alone in the apartment. But as their spine-
chilling cat and mouse game reaches its climax, his blind victim proves to be
an elusive and formidable match. Starring Pat Doidge and supported by a
strong cast of six, the play will be performed at the Union Musical Gata de

Gorgos on week commencing November 30 . One euro of every ticket sold will
be donated to purchase special sensory stimulation equipment for Ryan, a 13
year old Javea lad who has minimal sight, hearing and speech.
