PICASSO/MIRÓ/CALDER EXHIBITION
Your good friends Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró and Alexander Calder are scheduled to show you nearly 50 of
their prized works—including rare promised oil prints and whimsical bronze sculptures—at The San Diego
Museum of Art. All month long, the exhibition boasts precious loans from private collections, works of art from
the Museum’s permanent collection and several gifts to the Museum. Picasso, Miró, Calder’s modernist paint-
ings complements Calder Jewelry, which is on view at the Museum through January 3, 2010. This exhibition
assembles roughly 90 wearable works by the famed modernist including necklaces, bracelets, broaches,

tion. The San Diego Museum of Art is located at 1450 El Prado in Balboa Park. Hours of operation are Tuesday
through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5:00 p.m. General admission for adults
is $12, $9 for seniors (65+) and Military with I.D., $8 for students and only $4.50 for youths from ages 6 to 17.
Children 5 and under are free.
To complement this display, The San Diego Museum of Art, along with the Museum of Contemporary Art
San Diego, will present its annual Axline Lecture on Monday, October 26 at The Old Globe Theatre at 7:00 p.m.
The program will feature John Richardson, a renowned expert on Picasso, in conversation with Professor Sally
Yard of the University of San Diego. Richardson will also discuss and sign copies of his latest book, A Life of

FAMILY MATTERS BIG FAMILY BBQ
Do you miss those massive Sunday family barbecues where food brought family together in an idyllic dream
that seemed to last all summer? Well prepare to relive that part of your childhood and revamp it in your own
style! On Sunday, September 20 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., the old gang at Family Matters invites you to
bring your famous recipes, nostalgic tales, extended families and dear friends to the 2009 Annual Big Family
BBQ! Scheduled to be held at the picturesque Trolley Barn Park on Adams Ave. between Park & Texas, there will
be plenty of shade in which to cool off with a pitcher of lemonade. For the kids, a multitude of games and activi-
ties will be prepared, including musical entertainment, colorful play jumps and even social time for parents.

2009 SAN DIEGO RODEO
If y’all are up for a crazy pool party, ragin’ rodeo and seeing a lasso’s grip around cowboys in boots and briefs,
you must be ready for this year’s San Diego Rodeo! From September 11 through 13, you’re invited to partici-
pate in one of the fastest growing events this side of the Colorado River!
Start off on Thursday, September 10 at 7:00 p.m. with a howling good time at Kickers with the Boots and
Briefs contest that kicks off the entire event! Meet the International Gay Rodeo Association circuit’s #1 All
Around Cowboy in the World, the handsome David Renier. Then at 8:00 a.m., head on over to the El Capitan
Stadium Association, Lakeside Rodeo Grounds for the exciting first day of competitions, camp events and
indoor dancing. If you’re interested in competing in any of the events, follow these instructions:
-Contact the International Gay Rodeo Association (IGRA) for participation rules and regulations, as well as full
listings for events. Anyone can participate in the gay rodeo circuit.
-Pay an entry fee and participate with other cowboys in the next listed event. There are no qualifications for
most rodeos, however you may participate in finals by invitation only. If you are serious and pay the entry fee,
you can compete in any event.
Those cowboys and cowgirls who don’t have the time or resources for qualification in a traditional rodeo
circuit are encouraged to participate in this circuit! No matter who you are—gay or straight—you’re invited to
compete here! Happy trails!
