Welcome to the 2009
Annual Conference Session
Welcome to the 2009 Missouri Annual Conference, this marks our Seventh Regular Session. The Sessions
Committee has been hard at work to make this year’s gathering a very faith-filled and exciting one. We pray
you will find this year’s Session to be one of the best yet. Our theme this year is: Somewhere Out There . . . the
outwardly focused congregation.
Registration begins at 8:00 am on Friday in the Trade Center of the Expo Center. Per your request, we are
providing better signage this year which we believe, will be very helpful, especially for our first time members.
Opening Worship begins at 10:30 am lead by Rev. Robyn Miller and the Church of the Shepherd’s praise band. The
beginning of our Business Session will follow at 11:35 and continue throughout the day.
Friday evening’s banquet will not be the status quo as in previous years. This year you will find something a
little different in the “Mozambique Mingle” where Bishop Joaquina Nhanala from Mozambique will be with us
throughout the evening. You will have the opportunity to visit various Mission Area Stations. The food served
during the Mingle will be in the spirit of African food and will be served buffet style. You will be able to “Mingle”
with friends as well as hear Bishop Nhanala speak from a center stage area.
We are also pleased to have Bishop Hope Morgan Ward with us to share in our Bishop’s Learning Time. She and
Bishop Nhanala will join Bishop Schnase in sharing their faith stories during the Ordination Service which will be
held once again at the Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts Center on Saturday evening beginning at
7:00 pm.
Sunday evening will be a time for relaxation and relationship building as once again, we will attend the Springfield
Cardinals Baseball game. Elizabeth DeWitt has arranged for us to sit together this year and Bishop Nhanala will
throw out the first pitch. There will be no picnic this year but we invite you to enjoy a “ball park hot dog” and enjoy
the game.
Voting on 32 Constitutional Ammendments brought to us from General Conference will be a part of our Business
session and will take place during our Plenary Sessions. We pray you will take time to review these proposals
which may be found on the Conference website prior to Annual Conference and be prepared to cast your vote as
Christ leads you.
All in all, we believe we have prepared an Annual Conference Session that will prove to be one you will return
home excited about attending. Our goal is for you to take that excitement and share it with your congregations
along with the information you receive.
The Sessions Committee would like to say thank you to Rev. Sherry Habben, Director of Connectional Ministries
for her leadership in planning this year’s session. This will be Sherry’s first Annual Conference in this role. Thank
You Sherry for your spirit and your leadership.
May God bless each of you during this time and always
The Annual Conference Sessions Committee
Jim Barnett, Chair
