Lloyd, Gilbert
Gilbert Lloyd of Shell Knob, Missouri, went to be with his Lord June 8, 2008. Mr. Lloyd was born February 9, 1924
in Parkin, Arkansas. After graduating high school, Gilbert enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and fought
in World War II and the Korean conflict, receiving a Purple Heart for injuries sustained during the battle of Iwo
Jima. Gilbert moved to Shell Knob after retiring from the Kansas Gas Service where he was employed for 43 years.
He was an active community supporter serving on a number of boards as well as being a member of The United
Methodist Church and the Lions Club. Cooking was one of his best known hobbies. He was known as the “Shell
Knob Candy Man.” He enjoyed time with children and grandchildren, playing golf, hunting and fishing. Gilbert
was married to Mary Beth Lintner in June, 1948. She preceded him in death. In July, 1999, he married Rev. Judith
Breiner in Shell Knob. Judith continues to serve local congregations.
Morris, Mary
Mary Smith Morris died January 8, 2009 following a brief illness. Born in Greenville, South Carolina, she attended
the Bible College of Cincinnati where she met and married the late Reverend Homer Kenneth Morris. For many
years she lived in and around Saint Louis and Kirksville, Missouri where her husband served numerous churches
and later retired as a District Superintendent of The United Methodist Church. She served for six years as the chair
of the United Methodist District Minister’s Wives Organization in Kirksville and was active in several garden clubs
and service clubs in the Saint Louis area. For the last 25 years of her life, she had lived in Greenville where she
was a member of Buncombe Street United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was also a
member of the Greenville Women’s Club.
Sherman, Deloris G.
Deloris “Dee” G. Sherman of Rochester, New York and formerly of Cuba, Missouri, was born July 29, 1924 in Saint
Louis, Missouri. She left this life May 14, 2008 at Wesley Gardens in Rochester, New York. Deloris was united in
marriage to William “Bill” M. Sherman, Jr. on November 17, 1945 in Saint Louis. Dee and Bill retired in 1988 and
moved to Cuba, Missouri. Dee was a member of the Cuba United Methodist Church. She was a devoted wife,
loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and a good friend to those who knew her.
