Billy Bear from Butlins drops in at theTTGoffices to show off his skills as guest editor of this week’s edition
06:00 It’s an early start for me this morning, but I’m up with the lark, having barely slept through excitement at the day ahead… Today, I, Billy Bear, will be heading up to the big smoke to spend the day as guest editor of TTG.
07:00 I get dressed in my brand new retro uniform, which celebrates Butlins’ 75th an- niversary. I love it. I also pack my new Business Billy briefcase – I must look the part for my day as head honcho at TTG Towers – and jump on the train with Redcoat Roni.
09:00 Editor Dan Pearce meets me at the entrance to the offices. I’ll be stepping into his shoes today – but they do look rather small compared to my big bear feet…
10:00 Having been intro- duced to the team, I read through the features for the next issue. There’s one on the UK & Ireland this week, so I’m keen to add my comments on what makes a domestic
holiday so great. I also make a few calls to industry bigwigs to get the latest scoops.

Age: I don’t want to grow up, so I don’t count birthdays....... Works for: Butlins How long in the job: I can’t remember how long I’ve been here because I enjoy it so much – every day passes so quickly How long in travel: Butlins has been in travel for 75 years, but I’ve not been in it that long Hobbies: Making humans smile – we bears are full of fun and mischief, so I have a ball Best thing about your job: All the new friends I make each day and the smiles my bear antics bring to kids’ faces Worst thing about your job: I really want to be a Redcoat, but they think I’m a bit too naughty
12:30 Time for a quick chat with the TTGcommercial team to check we’re on track for the week’s issue and discuss any campaigns we have coming up. Apparently my sister brand, Warner Leisure Hotels, is launching something exciting for agents next month…
13:30 Phew! This editing is hungry work. I head to the cafe for a lunch break with some of the team.
14:30 After lunch, I gather the troops for the weekly editorial meeting. I suggest a few changes I’d like to see in the magazine, but my request for a weekly Billy

Bear page is not as warmly received as I hope.
15:30 Next up, I sit with Dan to proof-read the pages of this week’s issue and to make a start on our editor’s column. So much to say...
16:30 I’ve invited my old pal James Berresford, chief execu- tive of VisitEngland, to pop in to see us this afternoon. Over a cup of tea, I get a chance to grill him on domestic tourism
and VisitEngland’s plans for the future.
17:30With the issue put to bed, it’s time to say farewell to my new friends and head back to Bognor with Redcoat Roni. Being editor of a magazine is harder work than I’d imagined, but I’m confident of a job well done...
