Redfunnel is one of two main ferry operators to the Isle of Wight – Wightlink is the other FASTNET LINE.
New for the 2010 season, it operates the Swansea-Cork route with six overnight sailings a week increasing to eight sailings a week in the peak. Sailings generally depart at 20.30 arriving at 08.00, with a daytime sailing from Swansea to Cork in the summer. ■

Having taken over Norfolkline, DFDS Seaways operates every night between Birkenhead (Liverpool) and Belfast in each direction, a journey time of eight hours. But the Dublin route has been dropped. ■

CALEDONIAN MACBRAYNE. Scottish operator Caledonian MacBrayne still pays 10% commission to agents, and will introduce a new ship, the Finlaggan, on the Islay route in spring. It operates 24 routes along the west coast of Scotland including the Hebrides islands of Islay, Mull, Skye, Lewis, the Uists and Barra. Gourock, Oban and Ullapool are among its main ports and also serves Arran. Last year it was named Best Ferry Company in the Guardian and Observer Travel Awards. ■

NORTHLINK.
Runs nightly sailings from Aberdeen to Lerwick in Shetland, with four a week going via Orkney's capital, Kirkwall. Also operates up to three sailings a day from Scrabster (near Thurso) to Stromness in Orkney. ■
