This month we chat to Scott Marson, ABT Ireland Student Brand Ambassador, about his working life and loves away from the industry.
I ended up in the beauty industry because I’ve worked with ABT Ireland Founder Dave Horton for almost a decade in various capacities, from graphic design to video production and more recently as his Student Brand Ambassador.
The best thing about my job is communicating the benefits of insurance to students who are often unaware of the dangers they’re exposed to by not being insured. They can (and have been) sued for hundreds of thousands of euros – that’s life-changing stuff. The product that ABT offers within membership significantly reduces that risk. It feels good to know that I’m helping students avoid all that stress and trauma.
An average day for me is visiting students and lecturers at colleges across the country, waving the ABT Ireland flag. When I’m not doing that I’m concentrating on my video production company working in the beauty sector.
If I wasn’t in the beauty industry I would perhaps do something along the lines of psychiatry as I find people really fascinating.
My ideal weekend would be chilling with the family, annoying them by playing the piano, watching movies, walking, visiting cool places and eating out.
When growing up my role model was Picasso because he was an innovator throughout his life and didn’t compromise.
My favourite film is Birdman. I love its humour, pace, the way it is shot, the actors

- everything about it feels fresh, which is a hard thing to achieve these days.
My beauty icon is Anita Roddick. She stood to what she believed in and took the world by storm by being brave enough to challenge the stereotype and used her brand to communicate important issues such as gender equality and animal testing.
My favourite beauty treatment is a back massage.
My guilty pleasure is gorging on boxsets such as Homeland, Better Call Saul, Game of Thrones, Arrested Development, The Trip, The Returned, Walking Dead, and Dexter.
I think my strengths are that I’m pretty affable and disarming which helps when presenting to hundreds of students in an auditorium.
You might not know that I’m in a band with my son Thomas called ‘Kitten Pyramid’ and we were on tour last year with Tom Robinson.
I couldn’t live withoutmy family and my iPhone.
The most famous person I have met is Sir Ian McKellen when we were on tour. He was on Tom Robinson’s album and was in the green room after the album launch.
I’m at my happiest when the sun is shining and I’m out on a country walk with my family at a weekend, or on tour with my band.
I would like to be remembered as a nice bloke.
