Kenya plans fam and eyes 3m visitors Jennifer Morris

The Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) will host 30 agents on a fam trip this summer as part of its drive to boost UK trade confidence.
In November, the Foreign Office
removed an advisory against travel to parts of Kenya’s north coast. Now the tourist board is planning a fam trip in June, for which agents’ sales will be a key factor in the offer of places. Agents will also be invited to
roadshows for KTB’s supplier partners in April, with events in cities including London,
Edinburgh, Manchester and Dublin. Details of these events were still
being finalised but agents keen to register their interest for the fam trip or roadshows should email
kenya@hillsbalfour.com. Kenya’s new tourism minister,
Najib Balala, said the country was looking to increase total tourist arrivals from one million at present to three million by 2018. And he said he hoped the UK
would remain its top market. Last year 100,000 Britons visited Kenya, down from a peak of 200,000 in both 2007 and 2011. Part of Balala’s plan is to
introduce a refurbishment fund to help hotels modernise over the next three years and to push for
