Advertorials iRIS remote management capability slashes

remote system costs BVM Limited is rolling out an additional capability for some of its SBCs, PanelPCs and complete embedded systems. iRIS, which provides Independent Remote Monitoring and Control of embedded systems, consists of a software suite and an associated small mezzanine card inserted in a header on the SBC.

With embedded intelligence proliferating rapidly in all sorts of applications, the ability to control and manage physically remote systems from a central location is a distinct advantage. iRIS is incredibly powerful; trials have shown that over 80% of problems with remote systems can be resolved

over a network and if an engineer does have to attend site, the diagnostic and logging capability of iRIS reduce the on-site time required, typically by more than 15%.

The iRIS card is independent powered from the 5V standby line, so it allows managing power on/off of unresponsive systems through an embedded WAN or separate Wi-Fi connection, without any need to go into the OS or login shell to implement remote control. Operators have access to numerous remote functions: BIOS update, OS recovery, hardware monitoring and fan and power control, KVM + One Key Recovery and remote out-off-band backup. Installed application software can be updated and the OS can be recovered or re-installed.

Bulgin launches compact Buccaneer® connectors

Bulgin – an Elektron Technology brand – has expanded its ever-popular Buccaneer®

range of

environmentally-sealed power and data connectors with the introduction of the new Buccaneer 4000 Series. Building on the success of the Buccaneer 6000 and 7000 Series of quick locking connectors, this latest offering provides the same twist lock coupling and ‘fit and forget’ connectivity in a more compact format, making it easier for product engineers to integrate into their system designs.

The Buccaneer 4000 Series has been developed to provide excellent sealing characteristics to IP67, IP68 and IP69K standards – ensuring true environmental protection in harsh conditions – as well as to withstand vibrations, shocks and corrosion to EN/IEC 60068 requirements. Each unit has a UV- resistant, UL94-V0 flammability-rated plastic body equipped with a simple and efficient twist locking mechanism, allowing a secure connection without the need for specialist tools. Currently available in 3-, 8- and 12-pole configurations rated to 13A, 600V – plus a micro-B USB data connector – it offers a choice of solder and crimp contacts, and can accommodate cables from 3 to 7 mm in diameter. Together with a choice of in-line or panel mounting options, this makes the Buccaneer 4000 Series ideally suited to a wide range of marine, industrial, transport and infrastructure applications, especially where space is at a premium.

World’s most energy efficient digital

temperature sensor MMS Electronics has introduced a new range of digital temperature sensors from Smartec. The SMT172 is an ultra-low power, fully calibrated, high accuracy digital sensor. Using the most recent advances in silicon temperature sensing technology, the SMT172 has applied sophisticated IC design techniques and high-precision calibration methods, to achieve an absolute inaccuracy of less than 0.1 ºC (mode 1) and less than 0.25ºC (mode2) in the range of -10 ºC to 100 ºC. Full temperature range is -45ºC to 130ºC. The sensor operates with a supply voltage from 2.7 to 5.5V. The typical active current of only 60uA, high speed conversion over 4000

outputs per second (room temperature) and extremely low noise, makes this the most energy efficient temperature sensor in the world. The SMT172 has a pulse width modulated output signal, where the duty cycle is proportional to the measured temperature. The sensor can connect directly to a Micro-processor without an Analog-to-Digital Converter. The SMT172 replaces the SMT160-30.

100W DC/DC power blocks for tough environments

The TEQ 100WIR Series of high performance 100W DC/DC converters from Powersolve is designed specifically to withstand shock, vibration and extremes of temperature. This makes them suitable for industrial environments while approval to EN50155 also qualifies the TEQ 100WIR Series for railway applications. Output voltages range from 12 to 48VDC.

Featuring an ultra-wide 4:1 input voltage range and up to 90% efficiency, all 12 TEQ 100WIR units come in a rugged, sealed, heatsink-style metal case which can be chassis mounted. They will operate at temperatures up to +85 C with no derating and up to +95 C with power derating.

The DC/DC converters are manufactured by TRACO, incorporate an EN 55022, class A compliant input filter as well as output voltage trimming, remote on/off and under voltage lock-out. According to Powersolve, the very wide input voltage range and reverse input voltage protection make these converters a workable solution for battery operated systems.
