Southern Manufacturing Preview

Continued from page 24

Southern Electronics is also the pre- eminent marketplace for subcontracting and specialist engineering services of all of the descriptions. The PCB industry is represented by firms such as Eurocircuits, Active PCB Solutions and European Circuits. There are numerous leading firms offering assembly, custom cabling and box build services, among them JJS Manufacturing, Datalink Electronics, SIC, Cornelius Electronics and Drallim Industries. Electronics design is also strongly

represented at the show. ByteSnap Design, a specialist in embedded hardware and software development, will be launching its new Linux OpenGL SnapUI user interface framework at Southern Electronics. BitBox will offer advice at the show on using Arduino or Raspberry-Pi to develop successful commercial products. The firm has been responsible for delivering numerous ARM-core commercial products.

As comprehensive a round-up as that might sound, keep in mind that electronics is merely part of a much larger show that features pretty much everything else related to engineering and manufacturing. The specialist automotive and aerospace area, Auto Aero, provides a focal point for firms offering world-class precision engineering services. Other areas of advanced manufacturing will also be on show, including composites, engineering plastics and additive manufacturing. Aerospace and defence are, not

surprisingly given the location, prominent areas of activity for many of the exhibitors. But other areas of expertise such as medical technology and nuclear are also well-represented. Technology trails lead attendees

throughout the show, making it possible for them to really make the best use of their time at the show. Specialist areas such as, for example, the live demonstration machinery area, allow visitors to find everything they need extremely easily. A sweep of the goodies on show for 2016 includes CNC machine tools and machining centres, CAD/CAM tools, advanced adhesives, fasteners and

joining technology, laser engraving, packaging solutions, labelling and marking, enclosures, metrology and test equipment, coating and finishing, motors, drives and controls and much more. In short, pretty much everything.

As a final point, no preview could be complete without mention of the ever- popular free technical seminar programme. Running in two lecture theatres over the three days of the show, visitors have the opportunity to see discussions covering an extensive selection of business and technical issues. The sessions are delivered by a remarkable line-up of expert presenters in their individual fields.

Admission to the event and also the technical seminars is free to business visitors, and FIVE Farnborough offers ample complimentary car parking and easy access by road or public transport.
