operations from transloading to logistics on all of VRS’s railroads (which in addition to the Vermont Railway, Green Mountain, and Clarendon & Pittsford, also includes the Washington County and the New York & Ogdensburg). It was back to the big train on Saturday for a trip south to North Bennington, some 54 miles to the south. After a runby at the classic depot in North Bennington, the locomotives ran around the train and pushed the consist an additional seven


miles to the interchange with Pan Am Railways (ex-Boston & Maine) at Hoosick Junction, N.Y. From there, it was back to Rutland, bringing an end to the official convention activities. Sunday was one last day to ride trains, however, for those who wanted to stick around. The NRHS and VRS teamed up to run a public trip from Rutland to Ludlow, using the VRS cars from the big trainset (the Dover Harbor and S&NC dome were removed). RS1 No. 405, with


long-time engineer Scott Whitney at the throttle, powered the train. By all accounts, the Rutland convention went off without a hitch. Walter Zullig, Jr., was the convention chairman and oversaw the event. Tony White made sure everyone was fed during the trips, Stephen Miller did an outstanding job of making sure the buses were where they needed to be, and Eileen Weber kept the registration table flowing smoothly.
