With a new 20-mile, $5.2 billion elevated rail system under construction on the island of Oahu in Hawaii, Honolulu Rail Transit has placed a mock-up of the 80 cars currently under construction by Ansaldo Honolulu (a joint venture by AnsaldoBreda and Ansaldo STS) on display in Kapolei Hale (ABOVE). The line, when complete, will consist of 21 stations from Kapolei to Honolulu and is sched- uled to open in two parts, East Kapolei to Aloha Stadium (2018) and Aloha Stadium to Ala Moana Center (2019). The cars will operate in two-car consists, powered by third rail. Construction is under way on Phase 1 as seen at Kualakai Parkway at the Kroc Center, just west of station No. 2, the University of Hawaii - West Oahu, on June 1, 2015 (BELOW). The line is designed to relieve traffi c issues for residents of Honolulu’s western suburb. — ANDREW GRAHL

night service. The PATH trains are busy 24 hours a day, so cutting night service makes absolutely no sense. Very negative political vibrations from the Newark, Jersey City, and Hoboken areas caused the Port Authority to kill the cutback proposal. It was a bad idea underscored by the fact that 56 percent of Hoboken residence use public transit to com- mute to work each day. PATH commissioners said publicly that the cutbacks were not a good idea, which seale d the fate of the cut- back scheme. Thanks to Jonathan Goodman for the news.
Ontario Electric Railway Museum Celebrates 60 Years
The Ontario Electric Railway Museum cele- brated its 60th anniversary in 2014. This is a very fine museum that operates the Halton County Radial Railway. The museum is close to Toronto and has an excellent collection of
Toronto Transit Commission railcars, as well as equipment from other Canadian transit properties. It is very worthwhile to visit the museum, but don’t try to go to there in the winter. Opening day was May 2, 2015; clos- ing day is November 1, 2015. The operating schedule is reflective of Canadian winters. The museum is looking for volunteers as operators, conductors, mechanics, electri- cians, operations crewmembers, painters, gardeners, archivists, and general laborers. In addition to the 60th anniversary of the museum, 2014 also marked the centenary of London & Port Stanley Car No. 8. The car is now to undergo restoration. For more information you can contact OERHA, P.O. Box 578, Milton, ON. L9T 5A2,
www.facebook.com/hcrrrailway. The muse- um publishes an excellent quarterly maga- zine called Radial Report.
