The View from Queens
New York is undisputably one of the greatest cities in the world. Since childhood, being here, or the thought of being here, has always caused me great excitement. The sights, the sounds, the perpetual symphony of movement all create an unbelievable atmosphere that cannot be duplicated anywhere else. I would say that most New Yorkers feel the same way and that is why they are here. This shot of the midtown skyline conveys to me some of the excitement and the romantic promise of this incredible city. Here the “7” train heads east on its scenic roller-coaster ride away from Manhattan to Flushing, Queens. The extension beyond Queensboro Plaza opened in the 1920s and would serve both the 1939 and 1964 World’s Fairs in Willets Point. Today the same location is home to the U.S. Open tennis championship complex and the New York Mets’ CitiField stadium.
