challenge to maintain the intense schedule in order to open the ride by March. He cites a mild winter and a dedicated team of contractors as critical to keeping everything on schedule. He also has glowing words for B&M. who he says were chosen, “based on their design concept and winning track record for Leviathan at our sister park, Canada’s Wonderland. Our senior leadership and planning & design team really challenged B&M to deliver a taller, longer, faster version with some other unique twists. As always, they delivered with an outstanding ride that is certain to be considered one of the best in the world. There is no doubt that their attention to detail makes a notable impact on the smoothness of the ride experience." But why would a park add a second coaster on this scale? Carowinds already had Intimidator, a spectacular ride offering non-stop airtime. Yet the two ride experiences

are certainly different. "After the first drop of Fury 325, the ride maintains so much speed as the track is relatively low to the ground,” notes Fehnel. Another significant difference is the train design. Fury 325

uses four-in-line seating rather than the staggered stadium- style seating found on Intimidator. These are slightly faster for operation staff to load and check, but the middle seats miss out on the open view provided on Intimidator. “I think it is a trade-off,” muses Fehnel, “and considering

we have two world-class coasters, it's logical to offer both experiences.”

His advice to other parks lucky enough to have the deep

pockets to consider a similar ride? “I wouldn’t build it any taller than 324 feet… We want to keep the record!”
