Camelback Resort opens showpiece indoor waterpark


The opening of the new $163 million Camelback Lodge has transformed Pennsylvania’s Camelback Resort into a year-round family and adventure destination. Designed to complement the resort’s existing seasonal outdoor recreation area, including ski and waterpark facilities, the new facility serves as the largest ski in/ski out indoor waterpark resort in the US. Central to the offering is the new 125,000 square-feet Aquatopia waterpark, which boasts seven pools, 13 waterslides and a multitude of other thrilling water attractions from WhiteWater. These include the longest indoor uphill waterslide coaster in the US, a dark adventure river experience and a fully-themed AquaPlay structure. Situated under 1.5 acres of Texlon transparent roof, Aquatopia’s innovative design(allows guests to soak up the sun indoors at a comfortable 84°F (29°C), year-round. Camelback Resort is nestled in the heart of the Pocono Mountains, an area that


welcomes 22 million travellers annually from New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia. A full feature on Aquatopia will follow next month.

After adding the menacing Flug der Dämonen wing coaster last season, Heide Park, Soltau, Germany, has slotted in a new attraction for the kids his season. Wüstenflitzer is a desert-themed driving school themed by TAA Industries with cars by Sela, suitable for children four to 10-years-old. TAA has in fact themed multiple attractions for Heide


Park over the years, including the Flug der Dämonen and Krake rollercoasters, Maya Valley, TopiLaula interactive water ride, pirate stunt show and several


bedrooms and conference rooms at the park’s on-site hotel. New for 2015, the firm has re-themed the lobby of


the new-look hotel, now called Hotel Abenteur, together with 22 Western-style rooms. Each area of the hotel now has interesting props from all over the world, made by TAA, related to the travels of imaginary explorer Lord Alexander Explorus. In total the hotel features 166 rooms. As well as the Western-themed ones, guests can also choose to stay in a Pirate or Demon room.

Kings Island expands Planet Snoopy


Cincinatti’s Kings Island has opened for its 44th season with two new family rides in its Planet Snoopy kids’ area and the largest Starbucks store in the region (3,650 sq ft /339 sq m). Woodstock Gliders is a classic Flying Scooters attraction from Larson International, while Snoopy’s Space Buggies (a custom- themed Jump Around from Zamperla) feature six four-seat vehicles that bounce up and down while rotating in a circle. The Ohio amusement park is owned and operated Cedar Fair.
