Furuvik goes Extreme

Extreme, the Mondial Top Scan formerly popular with thrill seekers at Gröna Lund in Stockholm, has a new home at sister park Furuvik. The ride was removed from the Swedish capital over the winter 2012/13 to make room the record- breaking120m Star Flyer, Eclipse. A combination of zoo, animal park and pool area, Furuvik is situated on the Baltic Sea near the town of Gävle, just 1.5 hour from Stockholm.

Mechanica – friendlier than it looks!

Meet The Beast

Supersize fun at Playland Canada Billed as Canada’s most extreme pendulum ride, this big green monster is now ready and waiting for guests at Playland in Vancouver, which resumes operations for the 2015 season on May 16. Named The Beast, the ride is the first park model XXL produced by Dutch

manufacturer KMG and stands proudly at a prominent location close to the entrance of the park, which is part of the city’s Pacific National Exhibition Grounds. With its RGB pixel LED lighting, the attraction is expected to look particularly impressive after dark. A mobile version of the ride will be delivered next summer to FJF Amusements

in Australia, and KMG is currently negotiating for another to the US. For some of the company’s other recent and pending orders see “Kernels” on page 4.

AIr Race

Open since the start of the season on April 25, Mechanica is now thrilling guests at Liseberg, Gothenburg (Sweden). The Zierer ride whisks 30 passengers at a time 30-metres into the sky on the end of a giant rotating arm. As the ride itself turns through 360°, the six individual 5-seater cars (or “fingers”) flip and somersault. Every ride is different according to the rotation of the gondolas. “The visual impression of

Mechanica is challenging, but I actually think it looks a little scarier than it really is,” smiles the park’s CEO, Andreas Andersen. The attraction rides around 600 passengers, based upon a one-and-a-half minute time. “We want to offer something that goes beyond 90 seconds of action,” adds Andersen.“Therefore we have created an environment around the attraction that draws inspiration from 1700s Gothenburg.”

Enchanted Kingdom ups thrill quota

New this season, Air Race is the latest thrill ride to be added to the line-up at Enchanted Kingdom, the popular Philippines amusement park run by former IAAPA chairman Mario Mamon and his family. The six plane/24-seater Zamperla attraction is located in the Spaceport section of the park. Simulating the loops, banks and dives of an acrobatic flight, it is available to riders of 1.2m and taller. Located in Santa Rosa outside Manila, Enchanted Kingdom is now into its 19th, and will celebrate

its 20th anniversary in October. As well as its rides, the park is noted for its live entertainment offerings including the Victoria’s Way female singing quartet Enchanted Goes Broadway, tribal dancers at the Jungle Outpost, plus Skywizardry, which paints the sky with hues of colour and is regarded as a highlight of many guests’ visit.
