Day in the Life Kay Gynane

A whirlwind experience Kay Gynane runs the Kare Plus Stafford branch. Here, she describes a typical day “I

’ve owned Kare Plus Stafford for around 18 months now and still don’t have a set daily routine – every day brings its own challenges, with new faces

and new business arriving all the time. The first thing I do when I enter the office is check with my office manager, Lauren, what appointments we have booked for the day. Sometimes I have six prospective staff in for interview in one day, following a rigorous pre-screen by Lauren. We share the registration process to obtain the information we need to clear a candidate for work. On the days when I don’t have interviewees coming in, I’ll still be investing time in administration to ensure our marketing and recruitment plan is effective and that the paperwork and documents on our electronic system are compliant. Kare Plus has a reputation for providing quality staff and we work very hard to uphold that. Another recurring theme in my diary is client visits. In my previous career I worked in client-relationship management, so I know exactly how important it is to stay in touch with both your clients and staff. For this reason, I try and visit my clients as often as I can, even if it’s only for half

an hour. The managers at the homes we work with really appreciate being kept up to date, and it gives my staff a boost when I pop in to see them! One of my franchise highlights so far has been two homes specifically thanking me and the team for helping them to improve their Care Quality Commission (CQC) audits – moments like that make me really proud to be making a difference in the care industry.

“I know how important it is to stay in touch with clients and staff”

One of the biggest challenges for us at the moment is meeting the demand for our services; we’re already a preferred staff provider to some homes in our area and are increasing our shift hours every week. It’s a great feeling to have so many people interested in our services, but finding the staff to keep up with growing demand is challenging.

For the last few weeks, a significant portion of each day has been spent

readying ourselves to launch home-care services. Unlike most care franchisors, Kare Plus offer recruitment services and in-home care. It takes a few months to get the relevant certifications to offer domiciliary services, but we’re finally coming to the end of that path. My registered manager and I have been preparing for our final CQC interview this week and planning how to launch our home-care service when we qualify. Part of what inspired me to join Kare Plus was dealing with circumstances in my own life where a loved one didn’t receive the level of care I’d have liked for them, so providing a really high-level service in this area is really important to me. A typical day for me is busy,

unpredictable and very rewarding. It’s a whirlwind, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.” n
