n The boss of Chester-based care company SureCare has acquired the business from Housing & Care 21. Gary Farrer, who has been

SureCare’s managing director for two years, has completed a deal to buy the franchise company.

During his time at SureCare, Gary has developed the range of services offered by the company’s 27 franchises and three branches to include personal care and support, home services (such as DIY, gardening, cooking and cleaning), respite and holiday care, childcare and

introduction, earlier this summer, of the UK’s first micro franchises in the care sector, called SureCare Local, allowing people to become franchisees of smaller territories for £8,995. Gary and his wife Stephanie previously built the Lancashire-based Safehands Group into a £5.5million turnover business before selling in November 2011. Stephanie will form part of the new team at SureCare, acting as a consultant with specific responsibility for rolling out SureCare Local across the UK. Gary said: “I am looking forward to building the SureCare brand. We have put in place a strong, passionate management team and created a comprehensive range of services totally relevant to the needs of people of all ages today. “The introduction of our SureCare Local micro franchises is set to transform the care sector in this country, meeting demands of clients at a very local level. “The care sector has changed dramatically over recent years and will continue to do so. Companies like SureCare have a responsibility to continually adapt and evolve to ensure we are providing the right services for today’s society.” Bruce Moore, chief executive of Housing & Care 21, said: “Gary and his experienced team are perfectly placed to take SureCare forward and meet the diverse and changing requirements of its clients. “Housing & Care 21 will maintain its

focus as the largest non-profit care provider and national leader in providing innovative, affordable housing for older people.”

Dennis & Turnbull win national award Carl Reader

n Dennis & Turnbull (d&t) have been supporting franchise networks since 2007, with over 80 franchisors in the UK appointing the firm as the preferred accountants for their franchisees. Their approach has seen them win two national awards in the last 12 months, the most recent coming from the 2020 Innovation National Conference. At the annual awards ceremony they were recognised as the UK’s ‘Most Innovative Medium-Sized Firm’. Director Carl Reader commented:

“Many accountants say they are forward- thinking and can add value to their clients’ businesses – winning these awards demonstrates that the team at d&t really can!”

He continued: “All credit to our 40-

strong team – they have to continually evolve how they work as [fellow director] Ben and I push the business forward. Our approach is really against how most accountants are hard wired!”

The firm has made the finals in a further two national industry awards, the results of which will be announced in the near future.
