proof of the brand’s strong business model and potential for growth. A store opened almost every week in the UK last year, and as technology changes and the demand for used electronics continues to grow, this rapid expansion shows no sign of slowing down. CeX’s greatest advocates are the franchisees themselves:

1 Kevin Harrington, CeX Cork

Why did you decide to look into franchising with CeX? I was made redundant and had a redundancy package that allowed me to look at investment opportunities. I was also looking for a new challenge. I had the business skills and wanted to complement those skills with an established brand that would work in Cork city. The support of the franchise system was important to me as I felt I would benefi t greatly from a

franchisor’s experience and get a faster return on my investment.

What were your criteria for a franchise business? I was looking for a professional organisation with a strong brand image in a growing market, and the ability to deliver on the promises made.

What training did you receive and how would you rate it?

In-branch training in Newry and Derry franchise stores with completion of the competency packs. I visited the CeX support centre and I was impressed with the people I met there. I also participated in two store builds. The training was excellent, I could not fault it. All the CeX staff are very accommodating and helpful.

Has your experience of becoming a franchise owner met your expectations? Yes, it is better than I imagined.

What type of support have you received? I have received support at every level, from the initial training to the excellent ongoing support from my franchise manager. The advice in relation to store organisation and layout was particularly useful.

How has owning a CeX franchise improved your lifestyle? I am proud to fl y the CeX fl ag in Cork. It has allowed me a better work-life balance.

What are your plans for the future of your business? I aim to open more CeX stores.

What sort of person do you think a CeX franchise would suit? What characteristics would you say are essential? You are dealing with staff and the public on a day-to-day basis, so you need to be an enthusiastic individual who enjoys working as part of a team.
