In a nutshell: Work hard. Make good
shots. Never give up. A record field of 2,479 youth bowl-
ers traveled to the Niagara Falls region for the Junior Gold tournament, each hoping to bring home a great story for their next “What I Did on My Summer

Vacation” essay. For the first time, an Un- der 12 division was added, joining the established U20 and U15 divisions, and it was U12 Boys champion Andrew Neuer who made an observation one normally hears only after a grueling U.S. Open tournament... by bowlers much older.
“You need to make your spares in this
kind of tournament,” the 12-year-old said. And in the title match of his divi- sion, he basically out-spared Alexander Horton in scoring a 169-131 victory. Adam Zimmerman, the champion of the U15 Boys division, also had good
shotmaking on his mind, although he was more focused on strikes. “Going into the second game [of the
championship match], I was hoping to bowl the best I could and see what happens,” Zimmerman, 15, said. “To con- tinue to make good shots for that many
