f you think you have never heard of something called amy- otrophic lateral sclerosis, then think of the number of times you have heard of “Lou Gehrig’s
Disease.” Now you know. ALS is a fatal, neurodegenerative illness for which the ALS Association seeks to find a cure; it took Lou Gehrig’s life within two years of the baseball great’s famed “Luckiest Man on the Face of the Earth” speech at the original Yankee Stadium on July 4, 1939. Enter the “Ice Bucket Challenge,”
and you have millions of dollars in funding raised to support ALS As- sociation initiatives. The Ice Bucket Challenge is everywhere—probably on your Facebook news feed, and definitely on the radars of some of the
most visible figures in American cul- ture. Most recently, former president George W. Bush, country music super- stars George Strait and Garth Brooks, and rocker Dave Grohl of Nirvana and Foo Fighters Fame, all took on the Ice Bucket Challenge. Ice Bucket Challenge fever also has struck the bowling world of late, with PBA superstar Chris Barnes, five-time PBA titlist Bob Learn Jr., and Storm Products CEO Bill Chrisman, all em- bracing the challenge.
