GENE STUS
PBA Hall of Fame Tribute, 2012 Touch above to watch the Professional Bowlers Association’s video tribute to Gene Stus, from the 2012 PBA Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. Stus was inducted that year along with 16-time PBA Tour titlist, Jason Couch.
Outdoorsman: Spanish Springs Lanes at The Villages in Florida remains one of the most storied stops in PBA50 Tour history. It is the site of the final title won by all-time PBA50 Tour titlist, John Handegard, who defeated fellow PBA Hall of Famer, Pete Couture, 269-245 to win the Senior
Tournament of Champions there in 1998. In 2000, Stus bowled Roger Workman for the title in the outdoor finals of the PBA Senior World Championship. Top prize included $20,000 and a house worth $100,000. Workman won, but Stus had beaten far bigger foes by then. By 2000, he
had survived three heart surgeries, and yet still was battling his way into title matches on the PBA50 Tour. Maybe that is what Learn meant when he said that Stus “was driven just by sheer will. He would just make it happen, and he wasn’t afraid to make it happen.”
