A new look Refi ning for the future
Business, insight and intelligence for the broadcast media industry I
t’s with great excitement that I welcome you to the September issue of TVBEurope. Hopefully, you will have already noticed a distinct difference in the look and feel of the magazine (if only that it now fi ts inside your IBC delegate bag), and we took many things into account when drafting the blueprint for the publication you see before you. Of course, we wanted to bring many of our design aspects into line with the evolving and expanding industry around us, but we wanted to do so in a manner that accurately refl ects both the current progress being made in the industry and its future aspirations without stepping away from the quality principles that have stood us in good stead down the years. That means no change for change’s sake; our goal with this upgrade is to refi ne what we do, and we will always seek to improve our output in all areas.

On a personal note I’d just like to offer my thanks to all of the people behind the scenes here at TVBEurope who have played integral parts in this process, in particular the design team who have managed to turn around a full redesign during the busiest period in their calendar. It’s a fantastic achievement, and gives us a fl exible template to continue our evolving process of refi nement well into the future.
Many of you will be reading this issue at IBC2014, where once again the industry has descended
on Amsterdam for one of its fl agship events. You can read the second of our IBC previews in this edition, many of the stories courtesy of the wonderful IBC Daily editorial team, who will be working as
hard as ever throughout this year’s halls. The main thrust for September focuses on OTT multiscreen, as we gather insight on the current challenges, monetisation models, and the impact that developments in technology and demand could have on the OTT multiscreen experience of the future. We are also joined by Ericsson in bringing you a 4K supplement that continues our examination of the UHD movement, expanding on the themes and issues so eloquently brought to life at this year’s Beyond HD conference.
Finally, the nominations for the fi rst ever
TVBAwards are in, the shortlist drawn up, and our esteemed panel of judges informed. You can read who managed to make the shortlist on page 86 of this issue.
I sincerely hope you enjoy this edition of TVBEurope, and more than ever, I look forward to your feedback.
