The Great Britis

Think you know Britain? VisitEngland wants you chance to win prizes in the style of a great British But there’s no need to leave home – just answer

This year has already proved to be an exciting one for domestic tourism

Popular duo Wallace and Gromit returned to our screens earlier this year in a TV ad aimed at inspiring Britons to take a holiday at home – and to book through you, their local travel agent. There are a wealth of experiences and products in the UK to suit every customer. Over the next few weeks we will be giving product updates from key UK tour operators. This week, we highlight some of this year’s key trends and themes.

Fun on two wheels

The Olympic and Paralympic Games in London, and events such Yorkshire’s Grand Départ, mean cycling is big news this year. Getting on your bike is a fantastic way to take in the beautiful countryside, explore tranquil stretches of canal paths and waterways or hurtle down breathtaking mountain trails. Whatever oils your chain, there are thousands of miles of cycle routes to suit everyone across

the land. They are a great way to soak up the surroundings and get into the Tour de France spirit – however energetic you want to be.

Romantic breaks

Lancelot and Guinevere, Mr Darcy and Elizabeth Bennett, Romeo and Juliet, William and Kate. From the legendary to the literary, let the great lovers inspire your customers’ romantic breaks in the UK. Whether it’s strolling hand in hand on country walks, stargazing into velvet blue skies, or laying down a private picnic on a hidden beach, there are plenty of places for romance. If all this sounds too traditional, a 21st-century romantic holiday can be enjoyed in hedonistic haunts too: choose raunchy weekends, indulgent spa breaks and pitch-black restaurants.

Family getaways

For customers looking for a family break without the hassle of airports, the UK is packed with inspiring child-friendly holidays and activities. Walk among dinosaurs on a fossil- hunting tour or put nerves to the test at a thrilling theme park. Get close to nature and camp in protected woodland or stay in a lighthouse or on a barge on your family holidays. Or enjoy bike rides and picnics in a national park, long afternoons at the beach exploring rockpools, baffling mazes and hide and seek in the grounds of a stately home.
