Wilderness Safaris opens eco-sensitive Hoanib camp in remote Namibia Rebekah Commane

Ecotourism operator Wilderness Safaris has opened Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp in Namibia’s remote Kaokoveld. Located in the private Palmwag

Concession, the camp boasts a low-impact design that is sensitive to its desert environment and operates entirely on solar power. The camp comprises eight

en suite tents, including one family unit, each with a shaded outdoor area with views of the desert. The main area includes a lounge, bar, dining room, library, fire pit, swimming pool and deck.

Guests can explore the area with Wilderness Safaris guides and view elephant, giraffe, springbok and occasionally lion and rhino in their natural habitat. For itineraries of three nights or more, guests can enjoy a scenic

flight (weather permitting) to Namibia’s Skeleton Coast and its seal colonies and pebble beaches. Wilderness Safaris is a

sustainable business that “does not compromise environmental principles” and provides jobs, training and careers to people in their destinations. Hoanib Camp is accessible only

by light aircraft transfer from Doro Nawas Camp. Travellers on self-drive trips in Namibia must park their vehicle at Doro Nawas and fly to Hoanib. “Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp adds a very different and special dimension to our northwest

Namibian circuit,” says Mike Wassung, chief executive of Wilderness Safaris Namibia. “Its location in the isolated

Kaokoveld makes it an ideal option for adventurous travellers looking for an off-the-beaten-track destination and the opportunity to see a variety of desert-adapted species.”

Mahlatini, the luxury travel specialist, offers a five-night all-inclusive stay at Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp from £3,300 per person based on two sharing, with return flights from Heathrow with South African Airways. mahlatini.com
