Wings of Time ECA2 produces new show for Sentosa

After seven years, Singapore’s Sentosa island is to replace its Songs of the Sea multimedia spectacular with a new permanent show from ECA2. The new night-time productionr is called Wings of Time and promises mesmerising special effects and a stunning stage structure 50-metres wide, plus a storyline that will appeal to all ages.

But before the show begins, there’s eight minutes of musical interaction between cast and audience members. Then the night explodes into action against an abstract triangular backdrop inspired by the wings of the bird, the story’s central character. A tale of friendship, courage and adventure is played out over 19 minute as our hero travels on a treasure hunt through time. Through state-of-the-art production includes wonderful water, fire and laser effects, moving water jets with LED lights, geysers, water screens, 3D video mapping, pyrotechnics, coloured lasers and mist, all carefully choreographed to the music.

ECA2’s Emmanuelle Charrotte says the French firm faced a number of new technical challenges in bringing the production to life. “The toughest?” she asks. “Installing powerful new moving water jets for the first time, to project water up to 25m for ambitious effects. The result is an overwhelming feeling of immersion. The audience of 3,000 is treated to an experience that lifts them

up and carries them away into their wildest imagination.” Sentosa’s seaside location also presented further challenges, explains Charotte: “No environment is more aggressive against multimedia equipment than the sea. With salt corrosion, water and wind constantly threatening a show’s essential functions, it demands a special kind of expertise. ECA2 is one of the only companies on earth with this specific know-how, across a range of seasons and extreme conditions – as we proved with Big-O Show in South Korea and of course the previous Sentosa hit, Songs of The Sea.” Wings of Time launches on 17 June at

Sentosa’s Siloso Beach, and runs seven nights a week.
