The simple addition of a shuttle device to an overhead gantry has made Cimcorp's robotic technology suitable for the storage and retrieval of totes required for order picking, opening up the burgeoning grocery and e-commerce sectors to the enormous potential of robotic handling. With the robot placing retrieved


totes on the shuttle for transfer along the gantry to the outfeed conveyor and then the picking stations, the robot can move directly to its next task. In fact, with one third fewer robotic movements than a conventional overhead gantry system, Cimcorp 3D Shuttle allows a massive 80% of system time to be dedicated to the task of feeding totes to the picking staff, enabling Cimcorp 3D Shuttle to make order picking six times more efficient than a manual solution. "Rapid handling combined with ergonomic order picking means that clients can fulfil a greater number of orders per shift with precise sequencing of totes ensuring fulfilment accuracy," says marketing manager Paula Ovaskainen. “Unlike other automated picking systems Cimcorp 3D Shuttle needs no racking.”

AUTOMATED SORTATION The spotlight will fall on SDI’s latest automated handling


technologies. Its recently launched and highly innovative


hanging pouch sortation system MonaLisa allows sortation of both hanging items and flat goods simultaneously, making it suitable for multichannel fashion retailers wishing to combine several elements of an order. High speed sets the flexible sorting system apart, allowing the user to send out both picked and returned product later in the picking window. The TTU (Tight-Turn Unit) has recently had a complete


redesign, enabling it to be easily maintained by utilising a friction drive, thus removing the outdated chain and sprocket drive. Sorting up to 8000 items per hour, the unit provides high speed, bomb bay/split tray sortation but can also use trays should RFID technology be required. Developed as a sortation solution for fragile products and lower speeds, the PTU (Push Tray Unit) can handle a broad array of types and sizes of products at the same time - textile apparel, accessories, shoes, books, jewellery, CDs/DVDs and boxes. LIFT TRUCKS WITH FE BATTERY


BYD Europe says the range of forklift trucks it is launching at CeMAT is set to shake up the market for conventional battery-powered trucks by redefining the performance users can expect from electric materials handling equipment. The line-up of three counterbalanced forklift trucks and a powered pallet truck incorporate BYD’s lithium-iron phosphate batteries (Fe battery) which require significantly less time and energy to charge than traditional lead-acid batteries and far cleaner and safer than alternative lithium-ion (Li-ion) power options.
