CUSTOMER TRIBUTE FOR BRAMMER

A key customer of Brammer has paid tribute to the company after it scooped a major international trade award. Seda International received the UK-Italy Award for Industrial Investment at a ceremony in Milan. The awards are run by the British Government to celebrate the success of Italian companies who have chosen to invest in the UK. The Italian-owned packaging company announced an £18 million investment into its UK manufacturing plants in Blackwood,

Gwent, one of 12 in Europe. Seda confirms Brammer’s role in helping to achieve the accolade and its contribution to the major investment which will see expansion of the facility and the introduction of new machinery in response to growing demand in both the UK and overseas. “Brammer has contributed

significantly to bringing us where we are now,” comments purchasing manager Luigi D’Ambrosio. Brammer’s continued support of

UK RANKS WITH CHINA FOR SALES GROWTH

Global manufacturing executives rank the UK as one of the top destinations for future sales growth ahead of established manufacturing economies such as Germany. The UK has risen to second place – ranked equally with China – as a country where global companies expect to derive the majority of their sales growth over the next two years. Only the US (45%) beats the UK (17%) which is ranked in joint second place with China (17%), according to KPMG’s Global Manufacturing Outlook. A survey of 460 executives

globally, it reveals that in terms of a country where global companies expect profit growth in the next two years, the UK is ranked third (16%), only marginally behind China (18%) and marginally ahead of Germany (15%). The report found that

manufacturers were making a dramatic move to 3-D printing technology to reduce product development life cycles. While 81% of global companies

said they were using 3-D printing in product development, this trend was even more marked with UK

companies where 85% said that 3-D printing was used to speed up product development. It seems that innovation efforts

were focused on enhancing existing product lines and services (with 71% of UK companies spending in this area), rather than on breakthrough innovation in which only 29% put their efforts, perhaps due to a lack of R&D funding which was reported in the survey as being the top issue limiting the ability to innovate with 46% of global companies selecting this as the top challenge.

TRUMPF Financial Services is the first bank to specifically serve the production engineering community with the benefit of a profound understanding of the marketplace and its trends. Founded by laser and machine

tool manufacturer TRUMPF, it offers a broad range of financial services both to its customers and employees, demonstrating the company’s willingness to be innovative in every aspect of its business. There are several factors that distinguish the TRUMPF bank within the market. “We understand the clients’ business and needs and can see potential behind their investment better than anyone,” explains managing director of the bank Hans-Joachim Doerr. “We can offer greater flexibility and only use the machine to guarantee the loan.” TRUMPF’s first in-house leasing company started offering financing

for sales in 2001. In the UK TRUMPF has been financing sales in partnership with other financial organisations since 2005. With the introduction of the TRUMPF bank in 2014 the company can now be the customer’s single point of contact for the machine, its finance, ongoing technical support and potentially its ultimate upgrade and re-sale. It’s a complete turnkey package for the lifetime of the machine that isn’t matched by any other manufacturer, anywhere in the world, says TRUMPF. “Finance projects in the UK are

now being processed directly by the TRUMPF bank in Germany and the customer using a cross-border leasing agreement,” explains TRUMPF UK finance director Simon Binns. “Sales tax is therefore charged using the reverse charge mechanism which offers important cash flow advantages.” www.uk.trumpf.com

For the first time machinery manufacturers in the UK can apply for the TÜV SÜD Octagon Mark to prove that their machines fulfil safety and quality requirements. Certified machines are tested by TÜV SÜD’s independent laboratories while manufacturing facilities are audited annually to ensure consistency in quality. UK manufacturers will be able to use it to gain a competitive advantage through additional proof that their machines comply while offering purchasers assurance that machines displaying the mark are safe, reliable and compliant.
