Everything you need to know about industrial climate control

R

ittal has produced a second guide

book, ‘Enclosure process cooling’. and

publication from the Rittal Technology Library,

This handy provides

information on a variety of topics,

including the basic principles of climate control, energy saving opportunities and project planning, installation and operation - even for more complex applications. Answers to

many questions that are of interest to original equipment manufacturers, panel builders and end users alike, are explained comprehensively in this must-have book. As well as product specific guidance on the removal of heat using air circulation, fan-and- filter units, air/air heat exchangers, coolers,

solutions, the accurate selection of climate control equipment

cooling units and liquid-based cooling using

software tools is also covered.

Offering practical and useful tips on the installation and maintenance of cooling equipment, the guide book also draws on decades of experience of climate control solutions in industrial environments,

to

highlight typical errors and how working solutions may differ from those originally planned. To receive a free copy from Rittal Limited, simply send an e-mail request to cooling@rittal.co.uk, quoting the reference P1403.

SHOWCASE

Productivity and Downtime Hot Topics at Automation University

together key players in the energy sector to look at maximising process productivity and reducing downtime. Automation University On The Move, which takes place at the Aberdeen Treetops Hotel on Tuesday, June 10, offers multiple hands-on labs, live demos, seminars and industry sessions – bringing together solutions and specialists. One such session will be in conjunction with Aker Solutions and will look closely at subsea technologies – notably how the increasing complexity of subsea solutions is driving new control and communication solutions deep underwater. The event features many of Rockwell Automation’s partners and a large central exhibition area, where visitors can see products and technologies brought to life. Some of the areas of focus at the all day event include pump optimisation, safety and control systems, addressing cyber security and maintaining and updating obsolete control systems.

Microturbines turn steam pressure reduction into electricity to cut utility costs

for saturated or superheated steam, Spirax Sarco TR Steam MicroTurbines are available in two sizes, up to 700 kW. Higher electricity outputs are available on request. A microturbine producing 300 kW of electrical power can generate cost savings of more than £150,000 per year. The greater the steam demand, the

S

more electricity the turbine will generate and the faster the payback. Generally, higher pressure steam distributed from a boiler is conventionally lowered by a pressure reducing station, to match the needs of the heating or process application. With a Spirax Sarco TR Steam MicroTurbine, the steam is reduced to the required pressure as it travels through the turbine, with the energy released by the pressure drop being used to generate electricity. Industries with potential for using the microturbines include food and drink, chemical processing, pharmaceutical and any facility with a pressure reduction requirement. The electricity produced can be used locally or exported and sold to the mains power grid.
