USA finishes fifth at Paralympics
Penny Greely (Green Bay, Wis.), David Palmer (Mashpee, Mass.), and Meghan Lino (East Fal- mouth, Mass.), along with coaches Steve Brown (Madison, Wis.) and Rusty Schieber (Portage, Wis.), battled throughout the round robin in hopes of advancing to the playoffs of the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games. Te Americans, who were seeking USA’s first-ever Paralympic medal in wheelchair curling, got off to a rough start to the tournament and lost three of its first four games. Te team bounced back to win three straight at the Ice Cube Curling Center before losing in an extra end to Great Britain to be elim- inated from playoff contention. Great Britain, 13-4, while Canada got past China, 5-4, in the semifinals to set up the gold-medal fi- nale. Canada would go on to win its third straight Paralympic gold with a decisive 8-3 victory over host Russia. Great Britain rallied to win the bronze medal over China, 7-3.
