USA Triathlon: What were your goals growing up?


Sarah Groff: My goals growing up were to be an ornithologist [a scientist who studies birds] and to swim faster than my big sister.


USA Triathlon: Can you describe what a typical day is like for you? Sarah Groff: There’s a bunch of swimming, bik- ing, running, sleeping and eating involved. I get to play a bit sometimes, too.


USA Triathlon: Proudest moment? Sarah Groff: Fighting my way back to fourth place at the London Olympics.


USA Triathlon: What’s your advice for kids in- volved with multisport? Sarah Groff: Have fun, don’t worry about making mistakes and focus on being a better athlete every time you participate. With a positive mindset and a desire for self-improvement, anything is pos- sible!


USA Triathlon: What was your first triathlon and how old were you? Matt Chrabot: The Breezy Point Triathlon at 20 years old.


USA Triathlon: How many hours do you train a week?


Matt Chrabot: Anywhere from 20 to 35 hours. More if you include stretching, massage, foam rolling, etc.


USA Triathlon: Favorite workout? Matt Chrabot: Hilly and rocky runs through forests.


USA Triathlon: What advice would you like to share with young triathletes? Matt Chrabot: Don’t just swim-bike-run. Kick the soccer ball around, throw the football, work on your kickflip on the skateboard. Be as athletic and nimble as you possibly can.
