HURSEY, KANUTE RUN TO WINS AT SUPER SPRINT SERIES FINALE
Katie Hursey and Ben Kanute ended their 2013 seasons on a high note at Mission Bay’s
Rose Marie Starns South Shores Park, running their way to the top of the podium at the Fearless Pro Super Sprint Triathlon, the season finale of the USA Triathlon Super Sprint Series on Oct. 26 in San Diego, Calif. Contested in a double super-sprint format, professional athletes completed two continuous, non-stop circuits of the same course, each comprised of a 300-meter swim, 8-kilometer bike and 2.5-kilometer run. The finishers earned prize money, with the winners each collecting $2,500.

ITU ROUNDUP: RESULTS FROM WORLD & PAN AMERICAN CUPS
GUATAPE ITU WORLD CUP In the final ITU World Cup of the
year in Guatape, Colombia, on Oct. 27, Greg Billington (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Jarrod Shoemaker (Clermont, Fla.) finished in the top five. Billington fell off the lead group on the bike but posted a solid run split to finish fourth in a time of 1:59:21. Shoemaker headed out on the run behind the lead group but held onto fifth place in a time of 2:00:04. In the women’s race, Lindsey Jerdonek (Sagamore Hills, Ohio) finished sixth in 2:19:36.
SAN JUAN ITU PAN AMERICAN CUP The Americans earned three podium
finishes at the Pan American Cup in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on Oct. 13. Jarrod Shoemaker (Clermont, Fla.) logged the fastest run split of the day and ran his way into second with a time of 1:56:14.

Ryan Bice (Colorado Springs, Colo.) took third in 1:56:28, earning his first career ITU podium finish, while Kaleb VanOrt (Mishawaka, Ind.) and William Huffman (College Station, Texas) took fourth and fifth, respectively. In the women’s race, Brianna Blanchard (Boston, Mass.) finished third in 2:11:37 to grab her first career ITU medal.
TONGYEONG ITU WORLD CUP Joe Maloy (Wildwood Crest, N.J.)
finished fifth with a time of 1:51:36 in this late-season ITU World Cup in South Korea on Oct. 12. Maloy suffered a crash late in the 40-kilometer bike course but he was able to connect with the chase pack to keep himself near the front of the field heading into the run. Tony Moulai of France finished first.
