STOCKWELL NAMED 2013 COURAGE AWARD WINNER

SA Paratriathlon National Team member Melissa Stockwell was hon- ored as the Women’s Sports Foundation’s 2013 Wilma Rudolph Courage
Award winner in November at the organization’s Annual Salute to Women in Sports Awards Gala in New York, N.Y. Stockwell (Chicago, Ill.) is a three-time paratriathlon national and world champion in the TRI-2 division and was named USA Triathlon Paratriathlete of the Year in 2010 and 2011. A U.S. Army veteran, Stockwell became the first female American soldier to lose a limb in the Iraq war when her Humvee hit a roadside bomb in April 2004. She competed in the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games as a swimmer before she discovered triathlon in 2009. The Wilma Rudolph Courage Award is presented annually to a female
athlete who exhibits extraordinary courage in her athletic performance, demonstrates the ability to overcome adversity, makes significant contri- butions to sports and serves as an inspiration and role model to those who face challenges, overcomes them and strives for success at all levels. Visit

THIRD COAST TRAINING EARNS CERTIFIED PERFORMANCE CENTER DESIGNATION

SA Triathlon recently recognized Pasadena, Texas-based Third Coast
Training as the nation’s eighth USA Tri- athlon Certified Performance Center. In order to be designated one of the top multisport facilities in the nation, Third Coast Training met a number of rigor- ous requirements put forth by USA Tri- athlon. Third Coast Training offers high-qual- ity facilities and services to its members,
including a human performance lab, recovery center, heated indoor endless pool, bike fitting, video analysis and lac- tate, O2 and CO2 testing. Additionally, this performance center allows mem- bers to work with USA Triathlon Certi- fied Coaches, as well as consultations for physical therapy, nutrition and sports psychology. To

PAN AMERICAN EVENTS HEAD TO 3 U.S. CITIES IN 2014 T
hree U.S. cities will welcome elite triathletes from the Americas and Caribbean nations to compete for draft-legal
International Triathlon Union Pan American Cup and Champion- ship titles as well as a share of $40,000 in prize money during the 2014 season. The season begins in March with back-to-back race weekends

in Florida. The Clermont Sprint Pan American Cup is slated for March 1, followed by a trio of championship events in Sarasota on March 8-9, 2014. Dallas will host the 2014 PATCO Triathlon Pan American Championships on May 31-June 1. The elite race in Dallas is expected to be one of the first quali- fication events for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.
