SOUTHWEST More than 60 athletes participated in the 2013

USA Triathlon Southwest F1 Youth Elite Series. The five-race, draft-legal series is intended to help bridge the gap between traditional non- drafting and draft-legal racing. Rankings are kept throughout the series awarding athletes points based on their finishing place. In the girls 12-15 category, Jocelyn Bonney was the series champion earning 475 points on the strength of her win at Pacific Grove and competing in all five series races. For girls 16-18, Priyanka Vashisht Goel climbed atop the series

podium with a grand total of 350 points with her win at the Pacific Grove triathlon. Duncan Reid dominated the boys 12-15 races winning all five of

the series events to earn a total of 650 points. Sean Tucker was victorious at the series conclusion for boys 16-

ROCKY

18. Tucker finished second at the series championship, earning 150 points for his efforts which catapulted him ahead of Dillon Nobbs and Jake Gibbs to finish with a total of 315. Nobbs finished second in the series, tied with Jake Gibbs with a total of 300 points each. Nobbs, who won three of the five series races, was not at the series championship. Nobbs was competing on Team USA at the International Triathlon Union World Championships in London where he earned a bronze medal and posted the fastest 5k split of the day in 15:11. Thank you athletes, parents, coaches and race directors for helping make the USAT-SW Youth F1 Elite Series a success.

MOUNTAIN Congratulations to everyone in the RMR for

a great 2013 season! From our own CU-Boulder Tri Team capturing another Collegiate National Championship, a full complement of Regional Championship events, a large team of USAT-certified officials, as well as numerous individual champions at USAT Nationals, there were many opportunities to root on RMR athletes! For 2014, watch for the emergence of new Regional Championships, a new high performance youth/junior team in Utah, the appointing of new members to the Regional Council, and continued support for paratriathlon as we push towards the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Brazil. Are you part of your local triathlon club? Are they a USAT- sanctioned club? Starting in 2014, the RMR will feature a Club

62 USA TRIATHLON WINTER 2014

Championship! There will be separate categories based on club size, and points will be awarded based on the finishing times of the top competitors. If you need more information on how to become a sanctioned USAT club, please contact any member of the Regional Council. We also want to welcome Ken

Axford (Colorado Springs, CO) as our new Rocky Mountain Regional Athlete Development Coordinator. Ken will be overseeing an updated Talent ID Series throughout the region where he will identify the top youth and junior athletes and evaluate them for inclusion in USAT’s Elite Athlete program. Talent ID Series events will be held in each state during the 2014 season, so watch for future announcements on the RMR Facebook page and USA Triathlon Magazine.
